Watermelon costume ideas

The DIY Watermelon Costume has the most elements out of all the costumes in TTF’s 1st Annual DIY Food Series, with the rind, seeds and hat. Welcome to Four Cheeky Monkeys! It's a place you can find the latest in kids interiors, simple DIYs and early childhood ideas for the cheeky monkeys in our lives, big and small. I also used the food colouring to paint Indi’s $5.00 shoes to compete her outfit. So, here goes, with a few ‘progress shots’ of the watermelon costume being made. I am just commenting to let you know of the superb discovery my daughter had checking your web site.

Cut two circles, 4” in diameter out of the dark green felt. Cut the square into a circle shape. Easiest way to do this is fold the square of fabric into half, then half again. Then use a piece of cord or sting attached to a pen/pencil to create a makeshift protractor.

With this in mind, I thought I’d try a little watermelon DIY costume for Indi, perfect for a toddler friendly halloween costume. My original idea was dress her up as a watermelon pinata, double fun! But, anatomically speaking, it just wasn’t going to work, not this year anyway. Of course, you need your plates and napkins.

OMG this is so cute. I have never thought of a watermelon theme party before. But I would love to organize one now.

But overall, I was able to finish this in just a few hours and sewed everything by hand. So not impossible. This one probably was the one I got the most compliments for. Everyone LOVED the hat and this is another WOW costume that you can see from a distance.

Sew on the darker green felt, starting with the top end to the shirt. Seal off the bottom of the shirt, by sewing across the seam of the bottom of the shirt. This will act your outer rind. Once you have them sewn on, cut off the extra over hanging felt from the triangles to make the whole piece a circle. SINGLE. TIME.

Using the binder clips to secure the felt to the bottom of the shirt. And with the green felt, sew the top half of the felt to the shirt. Leave the lower end of the felt to sew afterwards. Using the hot glue gun, glue the piece to the headband. Sew together that circle with the other corresponding circle halfway.

Make sure the triangle is 3” in length so that it hangs over the circle. Let the opposite end of the triangles hang over the edge. Securing the seed with the safety pin.

The watermelon theme is wonderful for a spring or summer birthday. It easily pairs with other items, like different fruit or popsicles. It also makes a great theme for a party in a park or at the pool. All those warm weather feels accented with a little fun sweet treat.

Aww this is super cute! I can’t wait to get some fresh watermelon, this would be a fun theme for the end of summer. Tissue banners and fun and easy ways to dress up literally any party table. They are fun and lightweight, which makes them perfect for the front of a table. You can also hang them between trees, if your party is in a park or yard. Cut 4 thin triangles out of the light green felt and arrange them on the circle with the acute angle pointed into the center.

Pinch together the square on one end, and then sew the square standing up in the center of the circle to make it look like a stem. Fill the half circles with felt balls and if anything overstuff the hat. Keep sewing up the circles and stuff a few extra felt balls into the hat towards the end before you completely close it up.

What a fun idea for a party! It’s so bright and cheerful. Measure and cut out a 3 inch strip of the darker green felt that measures the lower length of the shirt.

While sticking with solid pink and green tableware is always a wonderful option, there are also some watermelon themed options you can find as well. Another lovely and sophisticated watermelon idea that would be perfect for table centerpieces at a summer baby or bridal shower. You actually did more than people’s expected results. Many thanks for imparting those helpful, dependable, informative and cool tips about the topic to Sandra. Cut 1/2” felt square out of the green felt.

Best bit – it makes the perfect little beach throw for over the bathers too! If you have any questions related to this DIY, just comment below and I’ll get right back. Spice up a pair of plain wedges with a little bit of paint to create these Sophia Webster-inspired watermelon wedges. A handy bag that lets you carry a watermelon everywhere you go. Another gorgeous garland for the win. I love the soft watercolor feel of these medallions.
