Back on Canouan, the newly opened Soho Beach House—its first property in the Caribbean—offered all the fashionable crowds and uptempo bass pulsating in the background that the brand is known for. An added bonus at the Canouan property, though, are the extensive ocean views. The property sits on Grand Bay beach and features 40 chalet-style guestrooms, restaurants, bars and a gym. The main bar is draped by a palapa with seating that includes a mix of vintage lounge seating and a long banquette. Martinis flow easily here, and so do the sounds of lively conversation and lapping waves. For more nightlife, Scruffy’s Bar served up just the nightcap I needed.

There are 26 suites and 13 villas, each with plush couches, en-suite marble bathrooms, high ceilings and ocean views, and even entry level rooms are a whopping 1,300 square feet. When hunger or thirst hits, guests can take their pick of five restaurants and two bars—with a wine list that rivals some of the best selections I’ve had in France. For pampering, the resort’s Balinese-inspired spa includes 10 hillside treatment palapas where you can enjoy services ranging from sleep therapy to facials using natural ingredients from the island. Facing the beachfront, Soho Beach House Canouan offers 5-star accommodations in Canouan and has a fitness center, garden and terrace. The property has a 24-hour front desk, airport transportation, room service and free WiFi throughout the property. At the hotel you'll find a restaurant serving Caribbean, Mediterranean and Local cuisine.

The showstoppers in Canouan aren’t high-rise hotels or orchestrated tourist attractions, but rather stretches of empty roads that reveal the ocean at every turn, and one of the largest barrier reefs in the Caribbean. The heart of the island is also its residents—the farmers and fishers who help source dishes like roasted breadfruit and fried jackfish, and neighbors who gather for weekend soccer games or a Hairoun beer at Scruffy's Bar. There's also a deli counter, an outdoor restaurant and a couple bars, a two-story fitness studio lined with retro tennis racquets, and a lounge area dotted with sun beds and hammock chairs. Beside the outdoor lounge terrace, a clapboard pavilion is at the heart of the Cowshed spa, where you can book in for hand, feet and body treatments. You can choose to have your massage therapy in an open-sided palapa nearer the shore; in-room treatments are also an option. Next door, Soho Health Club is a two-storey pavilion; its ground-floor combines a gym with LifeFitness and Technogym equipment with a consultation room used for one to ones about tailored fitness and/or nutrition programmes.

The main bar, housed in a large palapa, has open sides and a pergola roof over the seating area. There is a central square bar clad in hand-painted tiles in Caribbean blue, a crazy paving stone floor – a local design on the islands – linen and rattan furniture, vintage cane pieces, woven hanging lights and handmade ceramic lamps. Conch fritters, game-fish skewers, smoked barracuda paté slathered on flatbreads… At main restaurant Palapa, much of executive chef Jonathan Gargan’s culinary inspo is fresh off the boat – no sooner caught than transformed into ceviche, pan-fried mains and more. Dine in the open-sided thatch-roofed restaurant – split between an upper hut by the bar and a second palapa down a set of steps; make time for at least one private dinner for two by fairylights on the jetty.
Does Soho Beach House Canouan have a restaurant on site?

Soho Beach House Canouan is positioned on the island’s Grand Bay, and has 40 bedrooms, plus restaurants, bars, a deli, a boutique and a gym. No trip to the Grenadines would be complete without fully exploring its crystalline waters, and Mandarin Oriental has five beaches to get guests started on any aquatic adventure. Canouan is surrounded by one of the Caribbean’s largest living coral reefs, which draws snorkelers and divers from around the world to swim among its teeming sea life. On a boat trip aboard Mandarin's aptly named Living the Dream speedboat, I snorkeled through the Tobago Cays—an archipelago in the southern Grenadines with water so blue no Instagram filter is needed. Sea turtles, stingrays, and pufferfish were just a few of my companions against the backdrop of a fluorescent coral reef. The Wilses and I teamed up to embark on a boating day trip arranged by the property, complete with rosé in the cooler.

We stopped on the island of Mayreau—the smallest inhabited island of the Grenadines, covering about half a square mile with a population just under 300. The word “remote” is overused in reference to islands, but here, it truly does feel as though we’ve docked in a place without ties to time or anything beyond its shores. The only way to get here is by chartered boat, and the placid getaway remains uncluttered with just one hotel and guesthouse on the entire island. Mayreau’s Saline Bay is a crown jewel, with calm waters and sand marked with signs advertising freshly caught lobster. There’s also Lolo’s Beach Bar, easily identified by the red Hairoun beer crates that make up its bar and serve as seats.
There are no TVs in the bedrooms, offering a quiet escape for members and guests. Our editorial review for this one isn’t ready yet — but we’re working on it! You'll still enjoy the full fabulous MICHELIN Guide experience when you book, including our legendary service and delightful style. The number of extra beds and cribs allowed depends on the option you choose. ” It’s the question I get repeatedly after telling my friends that I’ve just returned from the northern part of the Grenadines—a region comprising 32 islands and cays scattered across the Caribbean ocean just south of St. Lucia and west of Barbados. The largest of the chain of islands, St. Vincent, is the most well-known, but most of its neighbors are a bit more elusive to many travelers.
Upstairs, studio spaces are used for guided yoga and meditation or HIIT classes – all free to join (private classes can be arranged at extra cost). Upon my arrival, a 15-minute drive from the small airport led to Mandarin Oriental Canouan, a 1,200-acre property tucked away on a cliffside, like an island to itself. The hotel is as secluded as it is eye-catching, with pops of pink and white around the grounds that create a vibrancy to match the glowing turquoise ocean that serves as the property’s backyard.
With 2030 goals set to enhance and standardise recycling programmes and responsible food-waste management at every outpost of the member’s club globally. They also work with local suppliers selected for their like-minded responsibility. In the kitchen, there’s scrutiny around how Soho House sources coffee, cocoa and palm oil, as well as sustainable seafood and responsibly reared meat. Expect greater choice of meat-free dishes and seasonal ingredients whenever practical. Measures to assess Soho House’s carbon footprint and reduce emissions are ongoing.
During a stop at the nearby Tobago Cays, we snorkeled with sea turtles and stingrays, then feasted on an outdoor lunch of grilled spiny lobster on Petit Rameau Island. Here, the sandy-toned buildings are no taller than the surrounding palm trees; when I checked in over a long weekend in January, rather than endless marble and blasting AC, I found thatched rooftops and guests padding barefoot from the quiet beach to the outdoor restaurant. Jetsetting creatives have breezed in and out of Soho Houses since hospitality power broker Nick Jones founded his first members-only club in 1995.
During my stay I met travelers Christian and Sally Wilse, who were visiting from their home in England. "The attention to detail is why I love Soho House," said Christian, who has been a member since 1996. "You feel the quality everywhere. And they are famous for finding those precious locations — there's only one place in the world you can get this horizon." The Store and Deli, painted in white and a pale Caribbean blue, sells men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. You’ll also get access to member-only discounts and a dedicated team of travel experts ready to provide personalized assistance along every step of your journey.
Amazingly, the bay — just steps from where I ate breakfast each morning on my balcony — is completely devoid of the whir of motorized Jet Skis and powerboats. Instead, 60-foot catamarans bob with flags from Barbados, France, and Norway. Closer to shore, pelicans dive into the turquoise water seeking fish, so close that swimmers can hear the surprisingly heavy thwunk, like a basketball crashing through the surface. On an island best known as a billionaire’s getaway, this small beachfront escape in the Grenadines has down-to-earth vibes — and you don't have to be a full member to stay there.
Antique accessories collected from all over the world decorate the space. The property also differs from most Soho Houses in that it prioritizes disconnecting and requires a puddle-jumper (or private jet) to get there — quite unlike the urban destinations in New York or Berlin that are ideal for meetings, screenings, or making professional connections. Wheels are not an option for stays at Soho Beach House Canouan, where airport transfers are taken care of and town is only a stroll away. For getting around, there are private cabs, water taxis and island buses. Only service animals with valid documents are allowed at this island beach house. Please note the hotel charges an additional service charge of 10% per room per night on check-out and an additional local city tax of $3.00 per room per night on check-out.
